LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (February 2, 2024) – On Saturday, February 10, dogs from across central and south-central Arkansas will take over the Hall of Industry at the Little Rock Fair Grounds for the Central Arkansas Shelter Adoption Event. This will be the biggest multi-shelter adoption in central Arkansas, featuring adoptable dogs from 14 shelters and rescue groups. The event will take place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

According to data from Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization working to end the killing of cats and dogs in America’s shelters by 2025, more then 48,000 cats and dogs entered shelters all over Arkansas in 2022, with over 5,400 of them being killed – with a majority happening within central Arkansas.

Since shelters across central Arkansas are currently at or over capacity, it's essential to adopt.

“The Central Arkansas Shelter Adoption Event will not only rally community support for the animals, but will unite animal welfare organizations from across Central Arkansas to help pets find loving homes,” said Jackie Roach, Executive Director, Best Friends Animal Society. “Not even half of Arkansas’ shelters have reached no-kill. It’s withing the power of Arkansans to support our community shelters and to commit to lifesaving whether that’s through adopting, fostering, volunteering, or donating.”

The adoption event will have more than 100 dogs available from organizations including Beebe Animal Services, Benton Animal Services, Bryant Animal Control and Adoption Center, Cabot Animal Support Services, Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals, Conway Animal Welfare Unit, Des Arc Animal Control, Greener Days Ahead Rescue, Hope Fur Paws Rescue, Jacksonville Animal Services, Maumelle Animal Services, North Little Rock Animal Shelter, Smith’s Friends Animal Rescue, and Southern Hearts Animal Rescue. Adoption fees vary by organization.

“No matter what type of dog you’re looking to add to your home, there will be a perfect furry friend waiting to meet you at the adoption event,” said Roach. “Best Friends is thrilled to further their commitment to Arkansas’ pets. Adoption is one of the most impactful ways to save more lives by not only giving a dog in need a home but opening space in a shelter or rescue to help another animal.”
