Community Voices: Lauren Nembhard
We introduce you to Animal Care Manager, Lauren Nembhard with Angel. Lauren works for Lifeline Animal Project in Atlanta and has been in animal welfare for two years.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing seemingly broken animals become loved family members and companions. Watching the animals in our care step into a new chapter in their lives, knowing they have achieved the best possible outcome, is rewarding beyond words.
In your opinion, how does community wisdom play a role in your advocacy and work in animal welfare?
It’s difficult advocating for something that people do not understand in all of its entirety. In order to properly help our communities, they have to be knowledgeable about the effects that our actions as human beings have on the animals in our community and those caring for them.
What would you like to see for the future of animal welfare and human well-being?
I would like to see an end to the idea that there are “inherently aggressive” dogs. Behavior develops and changes in tandem with environment and circumstances. There’s always a broader picture to be painted of the whys and how’s of animal care.
